To navigate through the timeline, drag the mouse in the main pane above, or use the buttons - Prev., Next, First and Last.
There is also a dropdown calendar in which you can select a particular day to go to.

Click on an event to see a popup with more details, and hyperlinks to other sites.

You can use the change filter options to show only related events (e.g. Only Sports events). And you click on any event in the Data List, to navigate to that event and examine its information.
